JROTC Cadets had an outstanding three days of rappelling. 193 Cadets participated with no injuries or concerns and almost 100% of the students went down the tall side of the tower. The goal for conducting rappelling is to get students to face their fears and overcome them. Our teaching moment is to show them, through the conduct of rappelling, that they can do anything they set their minds to, along with hard work and effort. They follow up with other events throughout the school year to reinforce the idea and to push their boundaries - putting them in charge of their peers, have them plan events for the programs, and interact and coordinate activities.
Through the Office of College and Career Readiness' partnership with Visit Baltimore, students in the “Consumer Services, Hospitality, & Tourism” career pathways, participated in a career exposure event aimed at exposing them to postsecondary pathways at Morgan State University and the hospitality industry. For the month of December, Cherry Hill Elementary/Middle School hosted a First Responders Career Day. During this time our middle school scholars had an opportunity to receive presentations from local EMT, Firefighters, and Police Officers. The guest shared heroic stories about their careers, along with important facts on how to perform CPR, BP checks, testing fingerprints and much more.
This information is very relevant at this time as our 8th grade scholars are preparing for the high school choice process. Hosting monthly career events affords our students an opportunity to receive a plethora of Career and Technical Education information and resources that can help shape their roadmap to their college and career success.
