Classroom management for your devices
Apple Classroom is a free app available for teacher iPads and newer Macs which provides management tools for your class!
Teachers are able to install the app on the teacher's Admin iPad (or Mac) by navigating to the App Store and searching for Apple Classroom.
Student iPads do not need the app installed. Apple Classroom will appear in the Settings only when a class is launched by the teacher.
Features of Apple Classroom include:
Launch apps, websites, files, or textbook pages on any iPad in the class.
Share documents between teacher and students.
See which apps students are working in.
Mute student devices.
Assign a specific shared iPad for each student.
See a summary of your students’ activities.
*If you do not have a teacher iPad (nor a Mac) to use for Apple Classroom, the Guided Access accessibility feature will give you the ability to manually lock an iPad into one app.
Connect to GreatKids. The teacher and student devices must be joined to the same GreatKids wifi network.
Update iPads. All devices must be running the most up-to-date operating systems.
Sign into the Teacher iPad. Using a teacher-created (for work) Apple ID, sign into the teacher iPad.
Set Up Apple Classroom. On the Teacher device only, install the Apple Classroom app and create your first class. Invite students(p3).
Join Student iPads. On the student iPads, join the classroom(p4).
It's a good idea to review the settings on the iPads making adjustments as needed. For example, you may want to disallow FaceTime, Mail, etc. These settings are found in the Screen Time Allowed Apps settings. Read more below...
Because teachers must submit a ticket with all iPad serial numbers to install apps on student iPads, it is recommended that you collaborate with your School Tech Lead to share a spreadsheet containing all of your iPads/DeviceNames/SerialNumbers.
See Apps Page for more details.
Teachers should set a Screen Time passcode to prevent students from changing the Screen Time settings. Screen Time settings include: Allowed Apps,

Accessibility features (under General settings) add essential usability interactions to the iPad. Depending upon your students needs, these accessibility features can be adjusted. Some accessibility features include: Guided Access (enables teacher to lock students into one app), Speech settings (text-to-speech, etc.), Vision settings, etc.
It is recommended that on each iPad, teachers place apps used for instruction on the primary home page or dock. Moving all extraneous apps into a folder or onto a secondary Home screen helps to reduce student distraction.
In order to keep iPads updated, it is recommended that teachers turn on Automatic Updates and run updates after school hours. Connect to a power supply during the update process.
Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive are the recommended locations for storing student work and files. Both offer unlimited storage for students and staff alike. Storing files locally on the iPad is necessary in some cases, but it is necessary to upload files to cloud storage and delete files from the iPad to prevent filling the available storage capacity. It is recommended that teachers periodically check the Photos app to backup and delete video and photo files.
A simple way to share student photos and files from an iPad to a teacher iPad is to use the Airdrop feature.
Additionally, the Apple Classroom app allows for easy file sharing.
When students share iPads, their accounts may be cached (saved) on the devices, causing issues when logging into Clever and web apps. Students can clear browsing data to start fresh and log into their accounts.
