Industry Placement Guide

What you need to do

• Begin thinking about which area of your industry you would like to do your placement in. Visit our website for advice and guidance.

• Think about how you will get to placement.

• Contact the employer in person or by phone rather than by email - we have a space in our office you can use to make calls. 

• Be persistent and resilient!

• Once your placement is agreed, submit your placement on Beyond BCA. If this is not submitted, your placement will not be confirmed.

• It is your responsibility to check with the employer if you need a DBS.

Points to remember

• Your placement should reflect the normal hours of your industry - usually 7.5 hours a day, 5 days a week Mon- Fri. during term time.

• We visit all employers to ensure their workplace is safe for you. If they do not have Employers' Liability Insurance you cannot go - no exceptions.

• If you have a part time job, make sure to inform your employer about your placement and dates. You are legally owed time off for your studies - we will be happy to contact your employer about this.

• If you do not complete your placement, you may risk your place on your course.

• Some employers are kind enough to cover travel expenses, but no student should expect to be paid for the hours they work.
