Industry Placement Guide
What you need to do
Begin thinking about which area of your industry you would like to do your placement in. Visit our website for advice and guidance.
Think about how you will get to placement.
Contact the employer in person or by phone rather than by email - we have a space in our office you can use to make calls.
Be persistent and resilient!
Once your placement is agreed, submit your placement on Beyond BCA. If this is not submitted, your placement will not be confirmed.
It is your responsibility to check with the employer if you need a DBS.
Points to remember
Your placement should reflect the normal hours of your industry - usually 7.5 hours a day, 5 days a week Mon- Fri. during term time.
We visit all employers to ensure their workplace is safe for you. If they do not have Employers' Liability Insurance you cannot go - no exceptions.
If you have a part time job, make sure to inform your employer about your placement and dates. You are legally owed time off for your studies - we will be happy to contact your employer about this.
If you do not complete your placement, you may risk your place on your course.
Some employers are kind enough to cover travel expenses, but no student should expect to be paid for the hours they work.
If you have any questions or worries, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to help!
