📘 What are T Levels?
T Levels are a two-year alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships. Launched in 2020, they are high-quality technical qualifications designed with employers to ensure students learn the skills the industry actually needs.
The "80/20" Rule:
80% Classroom: Students spend the majority of their time at college, learning the theory and technical "know-how."
20% Placement: Students spend at least 45 days (315 hours) on a meaningful industry placement with an employer.
🤝 For Employers: Why host a student?
An industry placement isn't just "work experience"—it’s an opportunity to trial new talent without a long-term contract.
Fresh Perspective: Young people bring new ideas and digital-native skills to your projects.
Build a Pipeline: It’s a 45-day "interview." Many employers move their T Level students straight into paid apprenticeships or entry-level roles after the course.
Cost-Effective: There is no legal requirement to pay the student (though you can if you wish).
Staff Development: Let your current employees manage or mentor the student to develop their own leadership skills.
Financial Support: Some SMEs (Small/Medium Enterprises) may be eligible for the Employer Support Fund to help with costs like PPE, equipment, or admin.
Employer Responsibility: You’ll need to provide a safe environment, a dedicated supervisor, and a clear set of tasks that help the student meet their learning goals.
