📝 Industry Placement Guide: What You Need To Do

• Research: Begin thinking about which area of the Early Years industry you would like to do your placement in. Focus Areas: Day nurseries, pre-schools, primary school early years classes, forest schools, childminding settings (Mandatory Enhanced DBS required). Visit our website for extra advice and guidance. 

• Travel Logistics: Think carefully about how you will get to and from your placement location.

• First Contact: Contact potential employers in person or by phone rather than by email. Tip: We have a quiet space in our office you can use to make these calls!

• Stay Motivated: Be persistent and resilient! Finding the right placement can take time.

• Log it: Once your placement is agreed upon, you must submit your placement details on Beyond BCA. If this is not submitted, your placement will not be approved or confirmed.

• DBS Checks: It is your responsibility to check with the employer to see if you require a DBS check.

💡 Points to Remember

• Working Hours: Your placement should reflect the normal hours of the equine industry—usually 7.5 hours a day, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) during term time.

• Safety First: A coordinator will visit all employers to ensure their workplace is safe for you. If the employer does not hold valid Employers' Liability Insurance, you cannot go—no exceptions.

• Part-Time Jobs: If you already have a part-time job, make sure to inform your employer about your placement requirements and dates. You are legally owed time off for your studies; we will be happy to contact your employer about this if you need assistance.

• Course Completion: If you do not complete your required industry placement hours, you may risk your place on your course.

• Expenses & Pay: Some employers are kind enough to cover basic travel expenses, but no student should expect to be paid for the hours they work as part of this educational placement.
