About Us: The Roche Center for
Catholic Education Mission & Vision
The Boston College Roche Center for Catholic Education forms educators to become agents of change who work to create excellent and equitable Pre K-12 Catholic schools. To continuously transform and innovate Catholic education, the Roche center provides leadership consulting, new program development, and research initiatives to a network of partnership, Catholic schools throughout the United States.
The Roche Center mentors Catholic leaders through the Catholic Leadership Cohort (CLC) Program. Above is a picture of the first graduating class of the CLC program on retreat together.
The Roche center vision is attentive to the current moment and drawing on our faith as a source of strength and sustenance, the Roche Center team will accompany educators and leaders to reinvigorate, revitalize, and breathe new life into Catholic schools and communities through a commitment to educating students as whole persons and building a socially just and equitable world.
In today's world, children are facing greater and greater life stressors: from the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to a high prevalence of mass shootings in schools. The lack of coping skills provided to students in order to adapt to a changing world has led to rising youth mental health illness and suicide rates. Due to the rising and novel threats facing youth today, our team at the Roche center believes that educating and preparing the whole child in all domains of their personhood-- cognitive, spiritual, physical, social and emotional-- is essential to a well-rounded, Catholic education.
Whole child education embraces a comprehensive approach that addresses the cognitive, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of learning. The concept of whole-child education constitutes an approach that acknowledges the multidimensional nature of individuals, prioritizing their comprehensive development. This paradigm challenges educational institutions to transcend a singular focus on academic achievement, advocating for an inclusive approach that spans all facets of human development. The overarching objective of this holistic approach is to ensure that individuals receive a well-rounded education that addresses their diverse needs, promotes their overall well-being, and endows them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values essential for success across various dimensions of life.
