In order to achieve the vision of Culture of Achievement and excellent instruction, teachers need access to rigorous, high-quality curriculum and materials. Teachers and staff need time to learn the curriculum and materials and should receive feedback on their implementation of these materials on a consistent basis.
Curriculum at all levels and contents is standards-aligned.
Materials used reflect at least the level of rigor called for in the standards.
Materials support and allow for full implementation of all of the components of the vision for excellent instruction
Curriculum and materials are culturally responsive.
Teachers and staff take time to review and learn the curriculum to the point of deep understanding before presenting it to students.
Teachers and staff receive feedback on implementation of materials and curriculum.
Curriculum development and improvement work is integrated into the other components of the system for instructional improvement.
Decide on a curriculum audit tool (see below for the LLA tool).
Decide whether to review all the curriculum at a grade level or specific content based on data. Note: You should engage in this process across all grades levels/content but that may not be feasible to do all at once for many reasons.
Develop or use existing team structures to dedicate time to review curriculum.
Use the audit tool to review curriculum and materials.
Determine next steps based on the audit and provide additional training/development needed.
