Washington State History

This course brings the story of Washington State to life through dynamic discussions, hands-on simulations, interactive lessons, and project-based exploration. Using The Washington Journey as our core curriculum, students dive into the rich history, diverse geography, and evolving culture of our state—from the ancient traditions of Indigenous peoples and early European encounters to modern-day industry and governance.

Students will act as historians: asking tough questions, analyzing authentic primary sources, and collaborating on meaningful projects that challenge them to see the world through multiple perspectives. Rather than just memorizing dates, we focus on understanding how the decisions of the past continue to shape Washington’s government, environment, and social landscape today.

Our core curriculum is The Washington Journey, along with Washington State financial literacy curriculum. Throughout the year, these resources are supplemented with primary sources, Since Time Immemorial resources, interactive activities, simulations, videos, projects, and other resources that allow students to investigate Washington’s history from multiple perspectives.
