June 3, 2020
Well, we've made it (almost) to the end of the school year. Our last official day for students is June 12. It has been a pleasure working with all of you, and getting to know so many kids and families. I hope you all enjoy your summer--keep writing and typing!

Hello Print and Pressers!
Thank you for taking the time to practice your keyboarding skills. I hope you are also continuing to work on good handwriting skills as well!
So far this month, the people who have spent the most time practicing on typing.com are Tanner, Oliver, James, and Everett in our Monday/Thursday class, and Logan, Ian, and Simi in our T/F class. Well done, kids!
Keep practicing!

Hello Everyone! I hope you are doing well at home.
I just wanted to give shout outs to those kids who are really practicing their typing! In the Monday/Thursday class Asher, Robert, Alijah, Deklan, Hadley, James, and Tanner have been doing a great job! And special recognition for Jordan, Oliver, and Emmalee for doing so much! Emmalee has our fastest typing with 15 words per minute!
And in our Tuesday/Friday class I wanted to give some special recognition for the kids who have been really tackling their typing! Shout-outs to Rafe, Megan, Lukas, Olive, Logan, Simi, and Aiden! Great job guys! And special recognition for Liam and Ian--they have been getting in lots of practice! Our fastest typist in the T/F class is Ian with 23 words per minute! Well done, everyone!

Hi Families! Don't forget to practice your typing skills on Typing.com!
April 21, 2020
Hello Families!
I hope you are all hanging in there during this unique social distancing time.
I have been monitoring student progress on typing.com and am pleased to see that most of you have been getting some typing practice in each week. For those of you who have not, please consider trying it out. 10-15 minutes a day works wonders!
Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help with anything!

Hello Families!
I hope you are all doing well and figuring out a way to navigate our new normal! It has been a very busy week for me, and all of our staff, as we have tried to figure out how best to serve our families from home! Fortunately, families at RHL are pros when it comes to learning at home, and I'm sure you have kept up with the routines you have established throughout the year.
Below you will find my schedule for the next couple of weeks. I will be using planning time to check on typing.com for your child's progress. (If they can just practice their typing 10 minutes a day, that would be great!) Then on Thursday mornings I will be sending an email to you just to check in. Please let me know that you got it, and anything else you would like to share with me. If the kids want to say "Hi", I will be live in front of my computer and would love to have a little email chat with them--I miss them, and have enjoyed hearing from a couple already! Keep encouraging good handwriting skills--I am looking for practice pages for you to print off if you need them.
Stay healthy and enjoy the next couple of weeks!

Just a reminder that Print and Press and Miss LaLonde’s Primary Science class will be cancelled on Thursday, Jan. 23, due to a field trip that several classes are attending. Mrs. Chu’s Primary Science class will still be happening that day (sorry that I forgot to mention this in my last email!)

Hello Families!
Several of the K-2 classes will be going on a field trip to Oregon Children’s Theater on Thursday, Jan. 23. We will be canceling Print and Press, Primary Science, and our regular LitLink class on that day. (Please check with Mrs. Carlson to see if she is planning to cancel her ClassLink class. Mrs. Recinos is not attending the field trip). Only Thursday's Print and Press class will be cancelled--Friday's class will still meet on Friday! For those of you attending the field trip, this will give you a little extra time to get to Portland—you should plan to be at the theater by 11:15 at the latest! I would plan to give yourself at least an hour to get through the Portland traffic. The play will be over at 1:00 and you should be able to get lunch at that time. You may want to head back over to Vancouver before traffic gets too bad.
For those of you who are not attending the field trip, please enjoy having an extra day for at-home instruction time with your 1st/2nd grader.
Please email if you have any questions! Thank you!

Hello Print and Press Families,
As most of you know, some of our 1/2 classes will be going on a field trip on Thursday and Friday this week (that's Nov. 21, 22). Because of this, I am canceling Print and Press on Friday--there will just not be enough kids here for class. We will have Print and Press on Thursday--we should have about half of the class here. So...
We will have Print and Press on Thursday, Nov. 21, Block 1.
We will not have Print and Press on Friday, Nov. 22, Block 1.
If you have friends that don't check their messages regularly, please let them know about this change!
Thank you!

Hello Print and Press Families!
We are continuing to practice typing on either typing.com or typing club. Many of you have expressed an interest in helping your child practice at home. If you are having trouble logging into typing club from your child's school account, you can try going here:
I'm not sure if that will work, but you can give it a try! I'm trying to figure all this out right along with you!
We have completed all of the capital letters in our printing review, and are starting on correct formation of lower case letters now. I am seeing some good improvement in the kid's handwriting--I hope you are too!
Parent Day--Friday, Sept. 20, 2019
Hello Friday Print and Press Families! I will be available to meet with you during block 1 (8:15-8:45) on the Friday Parent Day. Just come to room 8 and we will talk about goals for the next few weeks and ways you can help your child at home. See you and your students then!
Parent Days--September 19/20, 2019
Dear Families,
As you know, we will be having a special Parent/Student/Teacher Day on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Friday, Sept. 20. I have tried to put together a schedule that I hope will be meaningful and helpful for you and your student (Yes--bring your student!)
Here is what our/my schedule will look like next Thursday:
8:15-8:45 Block 1:
This is when I teach Print and Press. If your child is in my class, stop by and we will talk about goals for the next few weeks, and ways that you can help your student at home. If your child is in a different class for Block 1, then visit that class to hear what the teacher has to say.
8:50--9:20 Block 2:
I normally have consultations during this time, so I am planning to meet with Savannah and Annette and their kids to sign our September progress review. (Ladies we can meet together or one of you can take the morning spot and one can take the afternoon spot).
Most of your kids are in Primary Science at this time. Come to room 8 to meet with Miss LaLonde and set some goals for science class. If your child has a different class, go to that.
9:25--9:55 Block 3:
This is when you would come to room 8 for LitLink 1/2. I will have reading iReady scores available for you to see and go over with your student. Then I would like to have students take the Words Their Way Phonics Inventory (which is like a spelling test).
10:00--10:30 Block 4:
Around this time we will give the kids a little outside time (bring a snack too, if you like) and we will look at the data from the tests. Usually it is very clear which skills students need to work on. Then we'll bring the kids in and set some goals with them. I will have some materials for you use to reach your goals that you may take home if you wish.
10:35--11:05 Block 5:
For block 5 I thought we could talk about Zearn math and share some ideas about how to use this program effectively. I also have additional Zearn materials that I can show you if you feel you need more pages for your student to practice his/her math skills.
11:10--11:50 Lunch
I will repeat this entire schedule in the afternoon at these times:
11:55--12:25 Block 1
12:30--1:00 Block 2
1:05--1:35 Block 3
1:40--2:10 Block 4
2:15--2:45 Block 5
I hope this helps! We will be figuring it all out together. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
Kerri
September 9-13, 2019 Week B
Hello Print and Press Families!
We are off to a good start! So far everyone has had a chance to log in to our Chromebook computers--not always a quick or easy process for youngsters! We did a simple writing test, so I could see how the kids were forming their letters, how their spacing looked, their understanding of a writing space, and their pencil grip. They actually did a very good job!
This week we will start working on the Frog Jump capitals--F, E, D, P, B, and R. Please make sure that when your child is forming these letters they start at the top line, pull down to the base line, and then "Frog Jump" back up to the top line. Watch for practice pages to come home!
Hopefully we will be able to begin working on "Typing.com" this week. If it all works (got to love technology) your student should be able to log in and practice keyboarding at home.
Have a great week!
