High School Advising

June 9, 2020

Dear Students,

This will be my last message to you for the 2019-20 school year--and what a school year it has been! I hope you have all been able to get things wrapped up so you can finish strong on Friday.

Let me just say that it has been a pleasure working with you this year. I will only be in the building on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays next year, but would love to be able to keep in touch. Several of you have contacted me and I have added you to my advisement schedule already. If you would like to keep working with me as your advisor, please let me know, then take a look at your schedule for next year and let's see if we can work out a time to meet. If not, then please stop by just to say "Hi" and let me know how things are going.

I hope you have a great, busy, fun, and sunny summer! I look forward to seeing you in the Fall!

Mrs. Stewart

Hello Everyone! We are getting close to the final days of this very unusual school year. Here are a couple bits of information for you, before we all head off to our summer vacations:

  • Please be sure to check Skyward and see if you have any "I" (incomplete) grades. You will not receive credit for incompletes, and will need to re-take the class, if you choose to, in order to receive credit. Get that work turned in so you do not receive an "Incomplete"!
  • Cascadia Tech Academy is offering FREE summer courses! If you are interested, check out their information here: https://cascadiatechnicalacademy.org/.
  • Please let me know how things are going with you during these last couple of weeks. I need to be able to document that I communicated with you--so please be in touch!

That's all for now. Stay healthy and finish strong!

Hi Guys! The week is drawing to a close, and there are a few of you I have not heard from! Please send a quick email and let me know how things are going for you! Also, you should have received a survey from Mr. Syron to complete--please be sure to do that ASAP. And finally, THINK SUN!!! This rain is starting to get to me!!

Take care--I miss getting to see you!

Mrs. Stewart

Hi Guys! Thank you to those of you who checked in with me this week. Please remember that I need to hear from you weekly! For this week's check in, please complete the survey linked below. You only have to do it once, so if you receive this from another teacher then you can fill it out for them!

Thanks, Mrs. Stewart

Hello High School Families!

I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. I have some important information for you today.

First of all, this week teachers will be assigning work for you to complete at home that will be graded. The following standards will be followed for grades for second semester:

  • Students will receive letter grades of A, B, C, or D or an incomplete "I" designation on their high school transcript. All second semester high school classes will have a statewide designator to indicate the course was taken during the COVID-19 school closure.
  • For each class, the grade that students had earned as of March 13 is the baseline grade. All students will have the opportunity to improve their baseline letter grade. The final letter grade will not be lower than the baseline letter grade. Students can improve the grades they had earned as of March 13, and should contact their teachers to discuss the options for doing that.
  • An F may not be given as a letter grade. If a student’s baseline letter grade was an F, and the student has not made an effort to, or had an opportunity to improve their grade due to COVID-related circumstances, the student may receive an incomplete.
  • Students assigned an “incomplete” for a course will be given opportunities to re-engage and meet the learning standards.

This is great news for all of you! It gives you a chance to improve any grades that were lower than you would like to have on your transcript, and you cannot receive an "F". Please stay in touch with your teachers and find out what you need to do to improve--or what you can do to extend your learning! Your teachers are here to help you and want you to succeed!

For all of you sophomores and juniors--now is the time to apply for Running Start classes at Clark for next year. If this is something you are interested in pursuing, please go the the River HomeLink website and under the Parents and Students tab click "Counseling". This will open the Counseling page. In the upper left hand corner, click "Information" and select "High School Options". Select "Running Start" and it will take you to the Running Start page for Clark College. The steps for new students will be explained for you there. Things are a little different this year, due to Covid 19, but you should be able to find the information you need and successfully apply on this website. If you have any questions or problems at all, please contact Mrs. Miller at miller.margie@battlegroundps.org. Good luck!

I have spent time during the last few weeks going through each of your transcripts and updating your Credit Worksheets. If you have taken any classes for credit at a school other than RHL (such as Hope Learning Center) please make sure that your official transcript from that school is sent to our registrar, Shahla, as soon as possible. That needs to happen before your credits can be added to your transcript.

Finally, thank you to most of you for staying in touch with me. If I have not heard from you in the last week or two expect an email or phone call. It is very important that we stay in touch during this time of remote learning. And please let me know if you are having any problems or need help with anything! I miss seeing all of you. My little dog is pretty good company throughout the day, but she's not quite as good at conversation as you guys are!

Work hard and enjoy your learning!

Mrs. Stewart

Thanks to most of you for getting in touch with me! It is good to hear about what you are doing. Please continue to check you emails and keep the lines of communication open between your teachers and yourselves!

Have a great week!

Enjoy this beautiful spring weather, and stay well!
