Online Learning at BGHS

Battle Ground High School offers 3 Online Learning Options for students:  Digital Course Curriculum, the BG Online ALE program, and Credit Recovery

Please note that the Battle Ground Virtual Academy is a separate alternative learning experience not associated with the online classes at Battle Ground High School.

BG DIGITAL LEARNING CURRICULUM

Battle Ground High School offers a program of Digital Curriculum in core course areas. Students in the Digital Learning Program are required to attend class daily while completing an online course curriculum. A teacher assigned to the course is available to provide instructional support and to help students meet their learning targets.

BG ONLINE- ALE PROGRAM

The BGHS Online program is structured with totally online curriculum that is completed individually by the students. Students must maintain a pace to finish their assigned course during the semester, but they may do so in a flexible manner. There is no requirement for "synchronous learning".

The courses offered are currently in the core subjects- English, Math, Science and Social Studies, with the possibility of elective offerings in the future. While we do have an equivalent class at each grade level, we do not have exact matches for all of our BGHS courses.  (For example, we do not have a Horticulture course, but 10th grade students can take Biology).

The program model includes two weekly check-ins with Program staff that can be scheduled at a variety of times offered. These check-ins are required by the state of Washington to maintain participation in the program. Please note that the state of Washington requires that each online ALE student have a learning plan. Failure to maintain the appropriate pace in the online course(s) can result in the student being removed from the program into a regular course, and potentially could result in the loss of credit. Students should plan to spend 1 hour per day, per course, in addition to their required check-in times.

Students may add into courses at the beginning of a semester. Certain circumstances may allow a student to add a course during other times- please reach out to Kathy Ferrier, Graduation Support Coordinator, or a counselor you have questions regarding the BG Online Program.

If you are interested in taking a course(s) through BG Online, you will need to fill out the application and participate in a brief parent conference with the online program staff . The mandatory student learning plan will be created at that time. Program staff will reach out to you to get you connected. Prior to being enrolled in an Online course, the student will complete an Orientation to ensure that they understand the components of the online platform and that online learning is a good fit. Please note that the link to the Orientation will be sent to the student's BG Gmail account.

CREDIT RECOVERY

Students who have previously failed a high school course may participate in Credit Recovery. This program is designed to help students recover needed credits and "catch up" for graduation.

Juniors and Seniors who are deficient 3 or more classes can be scheduled during the school day to recover multiple courses within the same period. (Credit is earned upon the completion of the recovery courses, not for attending the school-day class). Most students will be scheduled for a "7th period" after school. Students in 7th period are not required to attend daily, but may access the computer lab and credit recovery staff during that after-school time.

Credit Recovery students can access their courses from home 24/7. A proctored final is required at the end of each course.

Credit Recovery during the school year is provided free-of-charge. A Credit Recovery program is also provided during the summer for a fee.
