1. Brief description and aims of module:
To develop the practical and theoretical skills you learned at Level 4, you choose two industry specialisms for further study throughout the programme. You conduct practical research projects to a high standard related to your industry specialisms in agreement with your tutor. You must demonstrate strong practical, organisational, developmental and reflective skills in each subject; this helps you prepare for production practice at level 6.
The module aims to:
Foster intermediate practical production practice skills
Promote professional practice
Develop collaborative, practical, critical and organisational skills
2. Outline syllabus
You undertake two skills over the academic year. In this module you study one of those specialisms and in module FTEP5002 you study the other. You engage in practical research projects demonstrating a range of skills and disciplines. All projects are subject to approval by your tutors. Some projects are collaborative and others are independent. Skills include:
Scenography
Costume
Scenic Design
Lighting and Video
Sound
Stage Management
Production Management
You identify your skills pathways during tutorial discussions at the end of level 4 studies. Each project offers unique challenges, but the learning environment mirrors the industry best practice and working to deadlines is essential.
3. Teaching and learning activities
This module is project based. Across the year, other programmes in the university offer you a range of opportunities to explore your industry specialisms in a live environment, where you have to produce a finished project within a timeframe and on budget. At other times tutors will set up projects to enable your study or you can set up your own project in agreement with your tutors. Key to this module is that the projects must be a live brief.
As you work on the project, tutors provide subject specific lecture support and additional support is available through tutorials and project planning meetings.
