1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module will explore the bidirectional relationship between people and the environment. It will examine the impact of physical, built and natural environments on wellbeing, cognition, health and psycho-social outcomes. It will also examine theoretical perspectives underpinning motivation and barriers for pro-environmental attitudes and sustainability.
2. Outline syllabus
A programme of lectures and seminars will address topics such as:
The relationship between the environment and health, wellbeing and social outcomes.
The link between environmental factors and criminality
Conservation psychology
Behaviour change in relation to the environment and sustainability
Psychology of sustainability and climate change
Consequences of human actions on the environment and ecology
Implications of research on environmental psychology and the development of social policy
Individual differences, attitudes, and cultural differences in relationships with the environment
Psychology of place and social psychology of space
3. Teaching and learning activities
The module will be delivered via a series of lectures and seminars.
