1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module explores the potential of film media in fashion. The fashion film has become an essential part of fashion marketing and advertising. Challenging traditional forms of fashion media, fashion films have the potential to explore multidisciplinary approaches to content, production and presentation. From live fashion show films to short film narratives, you will explore the potential of fashion through movement and time.
Through a series of team based workshops this module provides the opportunity to experiment within time based narratives, exploring: casting, storyboarding, image capture, editing and production, sound, styling, locations and set production techniques. Experimental processes are encouraged within this module in both analogue and digital formats. You
will benefit from working with movement directors and choreographers in the development of fashion content for film narratives and undertake practical workshops in art direction and styling techniques.
The module aims to:
● Examine the role of fashion film making in contemporary visual culture
● Provide a breadth of technical skill through moving image capture
● Provide skills in editing and production of fashion film narratives
● Improve your ability to self-manage a program of work and work effectively as part of a creative team
● Demonstrate critical awareness of your own methodologies and profession
2.Outline syllabus:
With tutorial guidance and support, as a creative team (group work) you will develop an extended sequence of moving image work, using the camera as an instrument of observation, investigation and experimentation.
Through team based workshops you will develop practical skills in location scouting, styling, filming, editing as well as post-production techniques. You are encouraged to be experimental in your approaches and will be supported in your progress by academic and technical staff.
You will engage in research methods and reflect on your practice documenting your conceptual process and production methods.
