1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module requires you to develop your knowledge of the photographic industry. It examines the operation and range of practice in the field by exploring the diversity of professional practices and how they are structured. You will conduct personal research into marketing and promotional methods employed by photographers. Drawing on this research you will develop a personal marketing strategy and self-promotional materials. By taking part in a self-promotion activity, you will also enhance your organisational and team working skills. A programme of seminars from alumni and industry professionals, will help you to consider your ambitions for life beyond university.
The module aims to:
explore appropriate channels and media for self-promotion
improve critical awareness of the photographic industry
organise and participate in a self-promotion activity such as group exhibition, participation in a photographic event
2.Outline syllabus:
This module is delivered by seminars, lectures and workshops led by core staff and industry practitioners.
Sustainability Issue mapping for a photo-media practice
Personal identity design
Consideration of ethical, social and environmental issues relating to the industry
Key skills in communication and IT will be delivered through presentations (oral
and written reporting) and assignments.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
You will learn through tutor–led projects and exercises, tutorials, critiques, seminars, workshops, lectures and your own investigations, all documented in a learning log (online Dossier). You will be given a number of practical and research based tasks around key topics outlined above in outline syllabus, further details will be given to you in a module handbook. The assignments are designed to help you achieve the learning outcomes of the module, through appropriate challenge and direction. Active learning will be facilitated through Minerva.
