1. Brief description and aims of module:
Digital effects, animation and motion graphics are used extensively in our media rich world. This module will provide you with ‘real world’ projects to apply your skills for creative outcomes. The aim of this module is to provide you with a chance to combine your skills and creative decision making to create a collaborative visual effects sequence. You will also design and deliver a motion graphic ‘sting’ or equivalent for the BSUTV station or similar. You will develop your skills and knowledge in the digital effects and motion graphics production process and creative collaboration that will enable you to contribute to a professional film, television and digital production environment.
You will further develop the knowledge and skills to explore the animation and digital effects ‘pipeline’ so that you can successfully plan, administrate and deliver digital effects and motion graphics artefacts for yourself and in collaboration to a high standard.
2.Outline syllabus:
Combine and synthesise your skills to plan and collaborate on a visual effects sequence for film
Respond to a live brief and deliver an animated logo (sting) or equivalent for broadcast
Synthesise visual research and development
Critically evaluate artefacts both technically and aesthetically
Plan and shoot footage for visual effects adhering to a professional visual effects ‘pipeline’
3.Teaching and learning activities:
The seminars and workshops will support you in the development of practical projects. You will receive individual and group support that will be provided in the development of your work through tutorials and critiques. Much of the practical work will be completed by the students both in class combined with their self-study time. Seminars and workshops will provide broader context relating the specialisms and will provide more information of industry best practice and starter positions within the vfx, animation and motion graphics field alongside practical guidance. Support will be provided throughout the preproduction, production, postproduction and delivery stages.
Individual Study Time
Students will be generating all of the content that they need to creatively deliver the projects through supported self-directed study. You will research, pitch and design your projects. You will collaborate and shoot background plates, research and develop the creative techniques needed for your projects.
