1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is designed to function as a partner to FTV5004-20 ‘Experimenting with Specialist Roles in Production’ covering film-making in both theoretical and practical form. It will follow the development and production of a short film from an initial script to final screening. Students will create an engaging short fiction film, working in teams to develop and produce their films as a collaborative project. They will work in defined roles in short film production.
Students coming to the module will have already started developing these specialised skills. In this module they will assume one of their chosen roles contributing to the production and completion of a short fiction based film.
2.Outline syllabus:
The workshops and seminars will cover:
structuring an engaging narrative
developing the visual aspects of a narrative
developing and pitching a treatment
best practice in drama production
pre-production workshops
moving from ingest to rough cut
reviewing and feeding back on rough cuts
responding to feedback
reaching ‘picture lock’
audio mixing
image correction and grading
constructively reviewing and evaluating work
3.Teaching and learning activities:
The module will use a mixture of lectures, seminars, screenings and technical workshops. Out of these workshops, each student will refine and develop their mastery of a production role through research, workshops and assessed production.
