1. Brief description and aims of module:
The module builds on FTV4001-20 and aims to introduce you to a selection of roles in production and give them the opportunity to explore and experience industry standard practices within them. The module will culminate in the production of a film that will demonstrate practical skills in both roles.
This module is designed to prepare and equip you to work as part of a team during the subsequent FTV5001-20 module, using more specialised skills developed through this module. There will be a focus on production workflow and personal skills development. Knowledge of production roles will combine student-led research with practical skills in the context of current production practice. The experience gained during the module is designed to build on and expand your core production skills.
This module is a required step towards FTV5001-20 ‘Short Collaborative Fiction Film’ where you will employ their knowledge and skills in one of their chosen roles.
2.Outline syllabus:
The workshops and seminars will cover:
roles in production
auditing skills and planning a development plan
reflecting on skills development process
researching production roles
researching key practitioners
researching key theories
exploration of practical techniques related to roles
production workflows and collaboration
producing a very short film
team dynamics and responsibilities
advanced project management
reflection and evaluation on skills development
3.Teaching and learning activities:
The module will use a mixture of lectures, seminars, screenings and technical workshops. From these workshops, each student will develop their understanding of the two production roles through research, workshops and experimentation.
