1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is an introductory course for students who have little or no experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), but may be interested in doing so in the future. By the end of the course, students will have acquired essential subject knowledge and familiarity with the principles of effective language teaching. They will develop a critical understanding of the main methods and approaches to language teaching, as well as some of the key issues and debates in the field of TESOL. This module may be a useful preparation for students who are considering taking the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) course (or equivalent), or who are thinking of carrying out postgraduate study in TESOL.
