1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module will explore a range of Musical Theatre styles with a key focus on stylistic awareness, detailed engagement with repertoire and developing performance skills.
Please note that this is an intermediate level musical theatre performance module. Students on the Musical Theatre pathway will be automatically enrolled; other students will be asked to submit an audition in advance to ensure that this module is the right fit for them (see below).
2. Outline syllabus:
The module offers a practical and theoretical exploration of performing different styles of Musical Theatre repertoire. Indicative styles to be worked on include musical comedy, musical drama, Brechtian influenced work and rock musicals.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Lessons will be highly interactive and will take the form of class discussions, practical work on musical theatre repertoire, workshopping of prepared student work and assessment preparation tutorials.
