1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module will equip you with employability skills and enhance your professional development as a practitioner across a range of music and sound industries. You will engage in discussions of music business issues (labels, copyright, publishing etc) and research specific practices that offer future employment. The module includes an opportunity to undertake and evaluate a short professional placement, a creative collaboration or a commercial project.
The module aims to:
Develop your awareness of industry practice
Engage you in the evaluation of professional creative work
Equip you with the skills to design and deliver an effective online presence
2.Outline syllabus
The module covers the following areas:
Music business (contracts, copyright, collection)
Professional identity (online presence, web design)
Digital platforms (distribution, digital publishing)
Marketing strategies (music promotion, press releases)
Contextual studies (sound and music business case studies)
3.Teaching and learning activities
The module will be delivered in the form of weekly lectures leading to discussion and research tasks.
You will also attend lectures in the “Think Tank” series featuring guests from the sound and music industry. These provide information, promote thought and offer insight into a wide range of sector ideas and issues.
