1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module continues the development of Audio Production from the Level 4 Audio Production module. It introduces a range of advanced and emerging audio editing, sound design and audio processing techniques. These more exploratory production techniques have evolved from a range of sources including classic electronic and tape music techniques, urban music production, and current digital sound aesthetics. The module also introduces the notion of Reading Audio Production, as a toolkit for the aural analysis of music production.
The module aims to enable you to:
Explore experimental technical and artistic approaches to audio production
Develop creative editing, designing and processing of audio
Engage in the development of unique and/or personalized audio production
2.Outline syllabus
The module covers the following areas:
Hyper-Production techniques in commercial and urban music
Aural analysis techniques for audio production
Creative Abuse, Edge Boundaries, and exploratory sound creation and production
Macro and Micro approaches to audio software platforms
3.Teaching and learning activities
You will engage in teaching sessions that include lead lectures, listening and analysis seminars, technical demonstrations, group discussions and focused technique development sessions in the Mac lab.
You are also expected to undertake directed study, working independently to deepen your understanding of the module content. This may involve continuing workshop tasks, making close readings of a key recordings or texts, or working toward an assignment.
