1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops critical awareness of Sonic Art, characterised as an open field encompassing all areas of contemporary art practice based on sound. It offers a global perspective and a historical basis in the 20th and 21st Centuries. Lecture presentations and discussion that cover a breadth of contexts and aesthetics in the field will inform personal research into a chosen area of sonic art practice.
The module aims to enable you to:
Explore Sonic Art as a field of contemporary practice, in the context of its historical antecedents
Extrapolate aesthetic principles from specific exemplars of good practice
Develop a practice-led approach to independent research into a chosen topic

3.Teaching and learning activities
The module is delivered through weekly lectures and small-group seminars. Further online study materials are made available through Minerva that should be used to support self-directed study.
