1. Brief description and aims of module:
Semester one of level 5 follows the pattern established at level 4 of three short project-based modules in each semester. This 5-week block begins the process of placing your creative practice within professional frameworks by exploring how research and development processes enable you to create a piece of original theatre. The module aims to:
Examine the acting process within professional contexts of the creation of new work
Foster creative, critical, analytical and interpersonal skills when working as part of a creative team
Promote strategies for creating and sustaining individual projects and/or collaborative scenarios
2.Outline syllabus
The focus of your level 5 studies is how you refine your acting process and consider how to use it across a range of creative, rehearsal, and production processes. This first project introduces you to models of producing professional performance as an actor engaged in the process of theatre making. It builds on your collaborative practice and enhances your performance skills in your development as a professional actor. During this project you will create a short piece of performance work, the focus of this project is to consider the processes of developing an idea and as you do so exploring how work is made. Your acting process must therefore interconnect with an overarching production process.Â
3.Teaching and learning activities
In all your second year modules, you will be taught across a series of discipline classes that underpin your development as an actor. These classes include (but are not exclusive to) Acting, Context, Improvisation, Movement, Singing, Voice, stage combat etc.
For this module you will engage with practical classes and then consider the impact of your learning through the creation of a short performance piece.
