We have four Psychology lab rooms for use by students and staff which can be found in Stanton. This includes two general labs for conducting experiments or qualitative research (SN.G19 and SN.G20), as well as our dedicated neuropsychology/gaming lab (SN.G06) and the eye-tracking lab (SN.G13).
During semester one when the labs are quieter, students can use the desktop PCs in SN.G19 and SN.G20 (3 students per room) for quiet study. If you would like to use the rooms, please email Georgina. Please note, the rooms are only available when not being used for research, and priority is given to final year students collecting their data.
SN.G19 is one of the larger labs, and is often used for experimental research. The lab contains one large desk, one single desk, a large TV for displaying experiments, 2x lockable filing cabinets, 3x desktop PCs with software such as PsychoPY, SPSS, JASP, NVivo, R and R Studio, and the algometer for pain research. Laptops can also be provided.
When not being used for research purposes, the lab and computers can be used by Psychology students who want a quiet space to work (booking required). The drop in statistic sessions are also run here on Mondays (1-2pm).
SN.G20 is one of the larger labs, ideal for conducting both experimental and non-experimental research such as interviews, small focus groups, or psycho-physiological investigations using Biopac. The lab includes one large desk, one single desk, a large TV for displaying experiments, and 3x desktop PCs with software such as PsychoPY, SPSS, JASP, NVivo, R and R Studio. Laptops can also be provided.

SN.G06 is our dedicated neuropsychology/gaming lab. The lab contains a number of neuropsychological tests that students can use to carry out cognitive investigations, as well as an X-Box for examining the psychological and physiological effects of video gaming. This smaller lab room also contains a single desk, small TV screen and a Mac computer. Laptops can be provided.
SN.G13 is our dedicated eye-tracking lab. The lab contains the department’s eye-tracking equipment, desktop PC and a single desk. Laptops can also be provided.
Students and staff also have access to the computer room in SN.G14 when it is not being used for teaching sessions. The computers have all the standard university software as well as Psychology specific software including PsychoPY, SPSS, JASP, NVIVO, R and R Studio.
For those wanting to use a lab for reasons other than dissertation research, please contact Georgina with the date, time, room number, and reason for the booking.
For staff and final year students wanting to use a lab for research purposes, contact Georgina who will arrange access to Resource Booker for you, which enables you to self-book a lab space. When booking a room, if you are using bookable lab equipment, please also include this in your booking title e.g. Dissertation data collection (algometer), along with your name.
During term time, particularly semester 2, the lab rooms are in frequent use. Please be considerate to other students who also need to access the rooms/equipment and do not block book the labs. You may only book slots when you have participants confirmed and for as long as the experiment takes. If you no longer require use of a lab, please cancel your booking through Resource Booker and let the tech team know ASAP.
