Spanish
Miss Waite
As in the United States, the Spanish Speaking World also celebrates Valentine's Day. Latin American countries such as: Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, and Ecuador typically celebrate this day with a different name: El Día de Amor y Amistad; which translates to The Day of Love and Friendship.
Interestingly, some Spanish speaking countries celebrate the holiday in September or October, such as: Columbia, Bolivia, and Uruguay. In Spain, a lot of the country celebrates on the 14th of February, while the regions of Aragon and Catalonia wait until the 23rd of April to celebrate and have done so since the year 1094!
BAMS 7th & 8th grade students in Señorita Waite 's classes learned Día de San Valentín y Día del Amor y de la Amistad vocabulary in anticipation of the holiday this year. Spanish 1 students had a blast making corazones de conversación (conversation hearts), while 7th grade enjoyed making tarjetas de San Valentín/Dia del Amor y de la Amistad. Both groups enjoyed learning the vocabulary associated with the holiday and delivering their works of arte (art) to their amigos (friends) and familia (family)!
