Can you tell which graph shows a proportional relationship and which one does not?
In February, students in Miss Hojnacki’s class will be working through Unit 2 which is called “Analyze and Use Proportional Relationships”. This unit will extend students prior knowledge about ratios, so that they can recognize and represent proportional relationships in verbal descriptions, tables, equations, and graphs. Students will also be able to identify unit rates, or the constant of proportionality. In class they will encounter many different types of situations involving ratios, including real-world problems. Can you tell which graph shows a proportional relationship and which one does not?
7th Grade ELA
As the year progresses, you may hear your student complaining about having to write or answer another TDA. In the next few weeks we will begin to focus heavily on Text Dependent Analysis and Text Dependent questions even more. What exactly are these? Text Dependent Analysis type questions force students to synthesize answers based on specific evidence within a text and demonstrate their ability to interpret meaning behind that evidence. Answers are based on evidence from within the passage, but often ask students to interpret that evidence and justify it as an answer.

7th Grade Science
In Science class, we have been learning about how traits are passed from parent to offspring. We have been predicting what offspring would look like based upon the genes of their parents. Students have been using punnett squares to predict the probability of certain gene combinations and traits. It combines our scientific concepts with math skills.
In Western World Geography, our students have been learning about many civilizations. In February, students will begin their study of the Central and South American civilizations. By focusing on the geographic, economic, social, government features of actual countries, students have been learning the fundamentals of civilizations. Students will also complete their Great Invention Project. This project will require students to choose an important invention, research its significance, and present it to the rest of the class. Students may choose to create a powerpoint presentations, Stop Motion Animation, or create a model to share with the class.
