Sickness, Running Late and Absence
Sickness
If you are unwell and not attending college, please contact the office as soon as possible, during exam times the office is open from 7.30am.
If you become unwell during your exam raise your hand an inform the invigilator who will escort you from the room or call for assistance to do so.
Running Late
If you are running late please phone the college Reception who will let us know. If you arrive at college after the start time go to the exams office in C9 immediately and we will escort you to your room.
Absent at the start
We will contact all students who are not present at the start of the exam. We will check to see if you have already reported sickness or if you are running late before calling.
Issues and Problems
If you believe there is an issue with the question paper, your allocated access arrangements, your equipment (e.g headphones for listening exams, PC, reading pen etc), or anything else please raise your hand and inform the invigilator immediately.
We want to correct any issues you may have where we possibly can during your exam to support you in achieving your potential. Please do not think you are causing issues by raising your hand, it is better we are aware at the time than after the exam when we can't make changes to correct any issues where possible.
Where this is not always possible a case for special consideration may be appropriate, however if we are not aware of any issues at the time of the exam then we can't apply.
If you have any further issues, concerns or queries please come to the office immediately after your exam and speak to the Examinations Team.
Suspected Malpractice
Most cases of suspected malpractice are due to students bringing in unauthorised items e.g. mobile phone, revision notes, see poster below.
Make sure you put all your revision notes in your bag and not your pocket.
Mobile phones are turned off and in your bag, if you do not have a bag hand it to the invigilator.
Remove your watch, even if it is not a smart watch and smart glasses.
Follow all the invigilator's instructions as failing to do this can be malpractice e.g. not stopping to write when told to do so, see warning to candidates poster below.
Any cases of malpractice will be investigated in line with the college's malpractice and maladministration policy and reported to the relevant exam board who are likely to impose sanctions on you as well.
Examples of malpractice incidents at Barton Peveril and the outcomes given by the exam board are below. In all cases the details of each incident are held for by the exam boards 2 years and any further report of suspected malpractice might mean a higher sanction is applied.
Special Consideration
Special consideration may be able to be applied for if you are adversely affected by circumstances beyond your control.
These include:
temporary illness or injury at the time of the assessment,
bereavement at the time of the assessment,
domestic crisis arising at the time of assessment,
incidents during the examination e.g. given the wrong examination paper, failure of equipment
international sporting commitments on the day of the assessment,
lack of previously approved access arrangements in place.
No more than 5% of the total raw marks available in the component concerned will be awarded. 5% is for the most exceptional cases e.g death of immediate family within 3 months of the exam. The majority of cases fall within the 2% or 3% range.
If you believe you have been adversely affected at the time of your exams/assessment please download the application form here. If you have any additional evidence you wish to provide us with please attach to the form. Once completed please submit to the exams office no later than the following dates so we can meet exam board deadlines.
21st November for November exams
27th January for January exams
25th June for summer exams
Any applications received after this date will be sent to the exam boards but may not be accepted.
Exam board will not release the percentage allocated but do confirm if an application is accepted or rejected, you will be emailed this information once received, this may be during the summer holiday as these are processed over the summer before the issue of results
