We often think of ELA as just reading and writing, but a large part of this subject is visualization and story telling. GIS can allow students to visualize the settings of novels and also allows them to tell their own stories digitally. GIS allows students to create their own worlds, terrains, and landscapes, much like Tolkien's World of Middle Earth, or JRR Martin's Westeros. We can use GIS to follow along with Kerouac or fins areas of conflict in The Things They Carried. ELA is not just reading a writing but also spatial thinking.
