For this project, I took a social media addiction survey and learned how social media impacts myself and society.
After taking the "Am I ADDICTED to social media?" QUIZ, the results stated,
You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
Perhaps I do need to rethink my social media habits, sometimes I would spend time on social media rather than doing something productive. Putting the phone away will help me be more productive.
This article shows the statistic on how often Americans are using social media. After looking at the data set, it does match my usage of social media.
I think social media can be good at times, but it does cause a lot of distractions for many people. I think social media was designed to keep you distracted, but social media does have its usage, for instance, by interacting with other people, you can connect or reconnect with people you are friends with. In recent years, Tiktok has been increasingly growing in popularity. Tiktok has countless videos that many people enjoy, but it does distract you, but overall there are always positive and negative outcomes.
I realize that I might have to change some habits, and hopefully, I can reduce my social media usage and become more productive. After this project, I'll be checking my screen time a lot.
