Lesson 1: RECAP

What is a recount?

The purpose of a recount is the retell an event or a experience.

Success Criteria - to write a descriptive recount that paints a picture in the reader's mind.

                • Past tense

                • Include senses (hear, feel, see, smell and taste)

                • Remember to think about who, what, where, why and how

                • Descriptive (adjectives-describing words or verbs-doing words)

                • Paragraphs

                • Punctuation (full stops, capital letters, comma, speech marks, question mark)

                • Simile (compare something to something else using like or as)

                • Full sentences that make sense

                • WOW or rich words

                • Sizzling start and clever conclusion

                • Alliteration

                • Onomatopoeia (sound)

                • Repetition

                • Adverbs (ly)

                • Nouns (names)

                • Spaces between our kupu

                • Variety of sentences (simple, compound and complex)

                • Group of 3

                • Writing must make sense

                • Writing must be in order

                • Time connectives

Watch this Youtube video to refresh your memory of what goes into a recount.

Discuss with your writing buddy and record at least ideas 10 together of what makes a good recount.

Once you have been told to publish your recount by your kaiako please make sure you publish it and then pop it on your BLOG. Don't forget your STEMS.

-Time to annotate Mrs Barker's recount about going to the A&P Show. Using a highlighter, highlight and indicate all the things that make her recount good. Remember to use the Success Criteria at the top of this page.

LABEL IT

  1. Make a copy of your chosen image

Tiger, Chameleon, Rabbit, Monkey , Elephant Seal, Zebra, Baby Gorilla (Remember to re name it and put it in your WRITING FOLDER)

  1. Write notes around your image including verbs, adjectives, onomatopoeia, adverb or even a group of 3. Then create a very descriptive sentence/sentences about your image. You could describe what it looks like, what it is doing, include the senses etc.

  2. Create a new SLIDE in your WRITING FOLDER, name it and then using your notes write a very describe sentence (or sentences) about your image.

  3. Make it fancy :) eg publish it and then upload it to your blog. DON'T FORGET YOUR STEMS!!
