At SOAR High School, students are expected to stay on track for both high school graduation and California A–G college admission requirements. While many courses meet both requirements, they are not exactly the same. Students should regularly review their academic progress with their school counselor to ensure they are completing the appropriate courses and credits.
High School Graduation Requirements determine whether a student has earned the credits necessary to receive a high school diploma. Students must successfully complete all required subject areas and earn the total number of credits established by the Antelope Valley Union High School District.
A–G Requirements are the minimum high school courses required for admission eligibility to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. Students must complete approved courses in the following areas:
A – History/Social Science
B – English
C – Mathematics
D – Laboratory Science
E – Language Other Than English
F – Visual & Performing Arts
G – College-Preparatory Elective
Because SOAR students complete a combination of high school and Antelope Valley College (AVC) courses, careful academic planning is important. College courses may satisfy certain high school graduation and/or A–G requirements when appropriately approved and applied.
Stay on Track!
Students are encouraged to review their A–G/High School Graduation Tracker and meet with their SOAR school counselor throughout the year. Our goal is to make sure every student remains on track for high school graduation, A–G eligibility, and their postsecondary goals.
