Skills needed by faculty advisors, according to our team . . .
"are organized and able to work independently"
"have imagination and outside-the-box thinking"
"able to listen for understanding . . . to be able to understand what exactly the student is asking"
"are connectors, connecting a student's idea of what they want to a career path, through higher ed"
"able to read the socioeconomic and psychological context of students' lives, (and provide advising) tailored to their needs and capacities"
What our current faculty advisors love about their position . . .
"seeing the students get excited when they see all the possibilities that are out there for them"
"(helping) another human being find passion or hope in an otherwise mundane or hopeless condition"
"working with other advisors who come from different places and positions across the college has enhanced my connection to the institution"
"the clarity and light in (students') beings when they feel more confident and empowered about shaping their future is the best reward"
"seeing a student's confidence bloom as they start to see the path forward and their ideas of what might be possible for them actually look possible"
"I love that I get to be a part the process of helping students discover who they are and what they want to do."
