Join the vibrant celebration of Día de los Muertos at Suculenta Cocina Mexicana's beautiful green lawn at the Domain. This free in-person event features live music, delicious menu items, and performances by the Guadalupana Aztec Dancers of Austin. Waterloo Greenway presents a free evening celebration of Día de los Muertos at Waterloo Park, featuring community altars, cultural activations, live music, and dance performances. The event includes a community ofrenda designed by Jose Arrieta Hinojos, inviting visitors to honor their deceased loved ones with images and decorations. An alebrije altar, supported by Love, Tito’s, allows attendees to remember their beloved pets, inspired by vibrant spirit guides in Mexican folk art. The evening will feature performances by DJ Manny Mo, Ballet Folklorico MariCruz, Mariachi Corazon de Tejas, and Danza Azteca Guadalupana, with moments of quiet reflection to honor those who have passed.

Learn more about Dia de los Muertos at the Elgin Public Library and Downtown Elgin. Traditional altars will be on display downtown at the Clever Tiger, 114 Depot Street, and a Community Altar will be set up for families to add their own notes or photos. Entertainment will include a strolling mariachi band, Ballet Folklorico dancer, fire dancers, Aztec Dancers and more!

Participants will learn how to create beautiful handmade sugar skulls just in time for Día de los Muertos. Due to drying time, the sugar skulls will be pre-made, but participants will be taught how to work with them during the class. A variety of royal icing and fondant colors will be provided for decorating the skulls. Magda will offer tips and tricks for the decoration process.

This hands-on class will teach you the traditions and symbolism behind this beautiful holiday. No experience is necessary - just bring your creativity and an open mind!

La Peña invites the community to the Opening Reception of "Día de los Muertos: Celebrando la Vida," a collective exhibition featuring artwork and traditional altares (altars) that honor the lives of loved ones who have passed. This vibrant celebration embraces death as a part of the cycle of life and memory, and this year's exhibition is dedicated to Lucy Orta and Eddie Canales. The exhibition runs from October 7, 2024, to November 4, 2024, with gallery hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (closed Sunday).

In this emotional healing workshop, participants will learn how to build a garden altar guided by the spirit of ancestors, bringing to life traditions through the story of Legend of Xochitl y La Flor De Cempasuchil (Marigold—the Nahuatl flower of Día de Muertos). The workshop will conclude with a healing ceremony in which participants will offer gifts to their ancestors and elemental guides.
