DIA DE MUERTOS ALTAR WORKSHOPS WITH CALAVERA/SUGAR SKULL PAINTING

Stop by El Centro Lounge to learn more about Dia de Los Muertos traditions. Join us for a live presentation on building an altar. Followed by sugar skull painting. They will have ceramic sugar skulls and paint supplies so that students can design and paint their own sugar skull. They can either take them home or leave them to be placed on the ofrenda Altar in El Centro.

JOIN ASCENDER AT THE AUSTIN VIVA LA VIDA CELEBRATION - FREE ADMISSION!

Come watch live music, dancers, floats, and costumes with Ascender at the 39th annual Viva la Vida Festival and Parade, Austin’s largest and longest-running Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival, hosted by the Mexic-Arte Museum in Downtown Austin.

Contest: We will have a Día de Los Muertos costumes/face painting contest, providing prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for ACC students. Also, the first 5 students to arrive will receive an Ascender swag bag with goodies.

FACE PAINTING AT EL CENTRO & PROYECTO TEATRO'S FANDANGO DE LOS MUERTOS

Come by El Centro to get your face painted. Afterward, we will take a trip to San Jose II Cemetery for the event, "Fandango de los Muertos" presented by Projecto Teatro. Limited reserved seating for the Fandango event. Parking available at the site if you want to take your personal vehicle.

Note: The Fandango event is two nights, however, the "Fandango de los Muertos" is happening on Nov 2.

DIA DE MUERTOS OFRENDAS Y ALTARES: MEXICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER

Altares and Ofrendas evening at the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) is an enriching presentation about the history and origins of Dia de Muertos. Learn about the most important elements of Mexican family altares and ofrendas as well as their significance, cultural references, and the traditional dishes prepared for this beloved celebration. A presentation will be given by Mariana Nuño-Ruiz and Ian McEnroe, local authors of the award winning cookbook, "Dining With the Dead- A Feast for the Souls on Day of the Dead".

ROSITA Y CONCHITA: A DIA DE LOS MUERTOS PLAY IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH AT THE SCOTTISH RITE THEATER

Two sisters try to reunite on the Day of the Dead. Along the way Rosita follows familiar sights, sounds and smells in her quest to find Conchita. Kids of all ages will love the rhyming bilingual dialogue, music, puppetry, and images. Based on the award-winning children’s book Rosita y Conchita by Erich Haeger and Eric González.


En esta adaptación imaginativa del libro infantil Rosita y Conchita de Erich Haeger y Eric González, dos hermanas tratan de reunirse en el día de los muertos. A lo largo del camino Rosita se sigue perdiendo, pero milagrosamente encuentra su camino a Conchita a través de sonidos y imágenes familiares. Todas las edades se disfrutarán del diálogo bilingüe y las imágenes impresionantes.

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS AT MOODY AMPHITHEATER AT WATERLOO PARK!

This free two-day celebration includes community altars, cultural activations, live music, dance performances, and more!

Día de los Muertos will transform the Moody Amphitheater stage into a community “ofrenda,” or altar, where visitors are invited to place images and decorations that honor their families and friends who have passed. The community ofrenda will be designed by local Tejana florist Yliana Lara, an artist and community activist.

Guests can remember beloved departed pets at a special Alebrijes Altar, supported by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and designed by local artist, Ernest Ramirez.
