The Anthropology, Economics and Geography Department met Friday, March 6 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Highland Learning Campus in Room 2209. The following faculty members were in attendance: Luke Armstrong, Jason Briggeman, Jessamine Dana, Massi DeSantis, Stuart Greenfield, Cedric Grice, Steve Howard, Lei Ji, Tony Lee, Paul Lehman, Mohammed Partapurwala, Lizzie Pintar, Carleen Sanchez, Alec Slivinske, James Sondgeroth, and Daniel Waktola.

Dean Daude Laurents is requesting feedback/input on our AMP process. http://dean.acclahc.org/la-amp/ .The Academic Master Planning (AMP) process will continue on March 27 with the second round of Area of Study meetings. Action: Minutes approved.
3. Discuss and take action on Early College Start economics and anthropology course request for Fall 2020
Discussion regarding total number of sections offered last fall, compared to those requested this fall.
Action: Motion to approve 15 overall sections of Economics ECHS and Dual Enrollment sections for fall semester. Motion to approve 2 sections of Dual Enrollment Cultural Anthropology sections. Please report any issue on high school or college campus ECHS class to Department Chair for assistance.
4. Discuss requirement of MyEconLab in Dual enrollment and or ECHS classes.
Extensive discussion about the merits of MyEconLab for students and instructors and the extent to which MyEconLab is being used in non dual enrollment sections.
Action: Motion was made to remove the requirement to use MyEconLab in Dual Enrollment sections, however MyEconLab is still strongly encouraged. The AEG Economics Department does not require the use of any publisher’s software, but strongly encourages faculty teaching dual credit, early college High school and distance learning sections to use of such resources to best meet teaching needs.
5. Discuss Distance Learning and QM updates- Carleen Sanchez
Carleen spoke regarding Quality Matters and OCRA requirements for those teaching distance learning. Please complete your course redesign as soon as possible in order to teach in Fall 2020. Instructional Designers are very busy so please email Carleen if she can be of assistance in your redesign process. Also, please note you are compensated for the completion of one course redesign, and then it is expected that those changes will be carried over in your other courses. There will be a peer review process.
6. Presentation on Faculty Mentoring for Liberal Arts and Gateway course proposition- Jessamine Dana
Jessamine Dana has been hired as one of seven Liberal Arts Faculty Mentors. Faculty Mentors can assist students with coordinating different services, degree program progress, and student concern check ins. Please email Jessamine.dana@austincc.edu to request Faculty Mentoring services for your student. Faculty mentors will assist with new initiatives, events, and how to promote our department.
Jessamine would like the task force to consider the Gateway course in Anthropology. Support for this course has been given by the Dean of Liberal Arts and more information can be found at gateway.acclahc.org. Anyone interested in rebuilding their courses in line with Gateway course can email Jessamine for more information.

Start planning ahead and put your course materials in Blackboard
Carleen mentioned that she could help with directions on setting up online testing. Carleen will will have a Google hangout meeting to discuss any concerns regarding getting material and assessments online.
15. Dr. Geoffrey Andron retired from the ACC Economics Departmentment as fulltime faculty for many years. Geoffrey was unable to make the meeting but the task force celebrated his legacy with chocolate cake and well wishes.
