As a Teacher Induction program AUSD is responsible for assessing candidate competence. The program is designed to assess candidate competence throughout the two-year program, using key program components that will contribute to the candidate's evidence of practice. Program components may include, but are not limited to, Interactive Journal entries, Inquiry Cycles, and an Exit Interview.
Throughout the year candidates reflect on their classroom practices and professional learning goals. Weekly coaching/mentoring sessions with their Induction Mentors and monthly sessions with their Content Mentor provide a safe space for dialogue and just-in-time support. There are also opportunities for candidates to submit written reflections and share their growth and progress in discussions with mentors and advisory members. In these forums, candidates are encouraged to share their evidence which may include student data, observation scripts, lesson plans, etc.
Candidates having difficulty meeting the requirements and expectations of the program will be issued an At-Risk of Not Completing form.
The Induction Leadership Team will offer feedback throughout the year. If the teacher disagrees with the findings, the teacher may either:
Rewrite or expand on reflection in order to illustrate a better understanding of context and/or next steps and then resubmit the document with additional evidence, as appropriate.
Complete the Written Appeal Form with additional evidence, as appropriate.
Note: Candidates who have not demonstrated competency and/or have not met all of the requirements of the AUSD Induction Program by the end of the year will be expected to sign the Request to Decline.
After completing program requirements the candidate will participate in one of the following closing procedures:

Talk with the Credential Analyst at the District Office (see information below) for support in getting an extension from the state on your Preliminary Credential. As long as you are still participating in the Induction Program, the request should be granted.
In an effort to ensure a program of the highest quality, it is essential that the Induction Leadership Team (ILT) collect feedback from candidates and stakeholders. The information collected is reviewed by the ILT during the weekly ILT meetings. The ILT uses the data to analyze and revise program components as needed.
Candidates are asked to complete a survey after each Induction Program experience, as well as mid-year and at the end of the year. Questions are designed to measure the relevancy of an experience, as it relates to the candidate's ILP and professional learning goals, as well as offer suggestions as to how the program may be changed and/or improved.
Site administrators, with Induction candidates at their site, are asked to complete a survey at the beginning of the year and at the year's end. These administrators are asked to gauge the perceived impact of the Induction Program on the teacher's experience and growth. In addition, the surveys inquire about strengths and areas for the growth of the program.
Advisory Board members attend and participate in the hour-long quarterly meetings. The AUSD Advisory Board is made up of members of the district and neighboring Institutes of Higher Education (IHE). The Advisory Board engages in learning activities and discussions that are designed to initiate input on the organization, coordination, and components of the AUSD Induction Program. At the year's end, Advisory Board members complete an informal survey about their experience as a member of the Advisory Board and whether they would like to continue their involvement in the coming year.
