Frequently Asked Questions
What the best way I can help my child's learning?
Shower them with love, support, and care! Provide a safe environment (learning space) at home to work at that is free of distractions and a lot of background noise. Give them plenty of breaks away from the screens and incorporate plenty of time to be a kid! There are resources provided that can help you (see above)!
How can I monitor my child's progress in class?
There are three avenues to know what is happening in class:
Google Classroom - join the classroom as a parent. You will receive updates on any announcements or assignments that are posted.
Science Website - look on the Science 6 page! You will find a button that is titled "Weekly Agenda." Use this information to prepare yourself of what is coming and what is going to be due. This is also the same information that is on your student's daily agenda, which is posted every day in class.
PowerSchool - use this platform to monitor your student's grades.
What is the grading policy for Science class?
Assignments need to be turned in by the deadline. If work was submitted after the deadline but BEFORE they were graded, students do not receive a penalty (Lucky!!). However, once they are graded, any late work submitted will receive a deduction.
Late work is accepted for that reporting Quarter only. This means work from Quarter 1 will not be accepted during Quarter 2.
Grades are updated each week. Please allow late work to be inputted by Friday before emailing the teacher(s).
How can I communicate with the teacher(s)?
Please email Mrs. Shin at kshin@ausd.net. If your child has Science during Period 3, please email both Mrs. Shin and Mrs. Hoffman (mhoffman@ausd.net).
