Choice Boards
What are Choice Boards?
Choice boards are graphic organizers that allows students to choose how they will learn and how they will express what they know in authentic ways.
Choice boards are effective tools when they provide multiple modes/pathways, difficulty levels, and accessibility tools.
Why should I use Choice Boards?
đź’ˇSET CLEAR GOALS: Students know what the standard is and can see it through multiple pathways.
đź’ˇACCESS & EQUITY: Content in a variety of formats and difficulty levels so that all students have access to content. Teachers can build supports and scaffolds into the choice board by hyperlinking resources.
đź’ˇ ENGAGE & MOTIVATE: Builds on students' strengths and interests to provide motivation for work competition.
đź’ˇCREATE SAFE SPACES: Students are allowed to work in an environment that feels safe and comfortable to them.
đź’ˇSTUDENT AGENCY & OWNERSHIP: Having choice is a powerful motivator in supporting students in their understanding of themselves as learners.
đź’ˇSTUDENT SELF REGULATION & ASSESSMENT: Create a culture where students consistently reflect on the learning process and assessments so they become self directed learners.
TRY IT FOR YOURSELF:
Reflect:
What task did you choose? Why?
What task do you dislike on this board? Why?
What if I forced you to do the task you dislike? Would you be as motivated to complete the work? Would your teacher know everything you know?
What value do you see in this type of lesson design?
How does equity play a role in choice boards?

This is all up to you! Here are some things to consider as you decide the best pathway for your students.
What works best for you?
What do your students already know?
Do you want them to see each other's work?
It is a little more work to set it up but it timestamps students work and you can organize it by student name & period
