Hello AUSD students and staff:
If you are experiencing problems with your Chromebook please try the following troubleshooting ideas to resolve your problems:
Reboot
Shut the device all the way off (hold the power button down until all lights are off, this can take up to 30 seconds), restart your Chromebook.
Remove or disable all student installed extensions
Go to chrome://extensions/ disable or remove all extensions you have installed on the device. This will resolve many software and hardware problems you may be having.
Reset Chrome settings to default
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More. (three dots) Settings.
At the bottom, click Advanced. Under "Reset Settings," click Restore settings to their original defaults. Reset Settings.
Chromebook will not turn on or the screen is black
No display or won't turn on:
- Check for blue indicator light on unit
- No light, check charging. Is there an orange light when connected to the charger?
- No orange light. Reset charger by unplugging from power source for 30 seconds. Still no light, probably a failed charger or failed unit. Newer devices have two charging ports (usb-c, try both).
If there is a blue indicator light and no display: Try holding the ESC+Refresh (circle arrow function key) and Power at the same time. If the display comes on with a message, close the lid and open again. This usually revives displays that go to sleep and don't wake up. You can also fold the unit into tablet mode (open display as far as it goes), close it and open again and sometimes that works.
If other issues arise we will send additional communication. We are working on an option for students to exchange failed devices for a working one.
