Please DO NOT purchase instruments on Amazon, and AVOID the brand Mendini. These instruments are often poorly made of low-quality materials, are difficult to play and keep in tune, and have little to no resale value. Please spend your hard-earned money on a high-quality instrument that will sound great and hold its value over time!
Brands listed below are in no particular order
Woodwinds & Brass
Flutes: Yamaha, Conn-Selmer, Pearl, Jupiter
Clarinets: Conn-Selmer, Buffet, Giardanelli, Bundy, Vito, Yamaha
Saxophones: Bundy, Cannonball, Jupiter, Conn-Selmer, Yamaha
Brass: Bach, Conn-Selmer, Jupiter, Bundy, Yamaha—used only
Strings (all)
Strobel, Eastman, Knilling, Scherl & Roth, Cremona
Reeds
I highly recommend Juno brand reeds for beginners, and Vandoren for experienced players
Numbers are for the stiffness of the reed. Higher numbers are stiffer and usually last longer than lower numbers. Beginners start on #2, and move up to #2.5 or #3 after about one year of instruction.
Valve & Slide Oil
Please make sure you use the correct type of oil for your instrument
Slide oil is only for trombones, valve oil is for all other brass
Strings
If you break a string, please go to Music & Arts or Kolacny Music (see above)
D’Addario Prelude are the strings we use, and should be readily available
Rosin
We use Super Sensitive rosin, I recommend that brand or similar
Dark rosin is for cellos, light rosin is for violins and violas
Basses need rosin made especially for them, please make sure it is labeled as such
