Android VR Apps

You can search the Google Play store for VR apps, anything compatible with Google Cardboard will work well. Not all android VR apps have academic merit, the following apps are a sample recommendation for classroom use. Also, these devices are not meant to be used on APS wifi, so any apps dowloaded need to work offline.

Cinematic Virtual Reality

From the Google Play store:

•What it is: beautiful immersive stories — award-winning VR documentaries, animation, music videos, horror, and more

•Photo-real people & places: everything is captured with cameras or rendered CGI

•Quality > Quantity: we hand-pick only the best from independent creators, studios, and film festivals from around the 🌎 every month

•Hi-res: if you download the experiences (streaming is fast but lower res)

•Free: no charges, no ads

•What it isn't: an interactive VR game (though we ❤️ those too!)

A Race in a Human Cell

From the Google Play store:

InCell is an action/racing game with a bit of strategy and science thrown into the mix in a rare and highly unusual micro world of the carefully recreated human cell. This is the right project to start your acquaintance with Cardboard VR or receive new VR impressions. The game is focused on Virtual Reality but you can play just fine without a set (Cardboard or any other).

To switch VR mode off - just tap & hold the screen or use Cardboard's trigger to open main menu.

A unique experimental project made by Luden.io to test the opportunities of the new Virtual Reality provided by Google Cardboard.

Moon Landing Simulation

From the Google Play store:

Celebrating the 45 year anniversary of the Apollo 15 mission!

Use your phone and Google Cardboard to simulate the 1971 Apollo 15 Moon Landing.

Feel the rumble as the spacecraft descends to the Lunar surface.

Walk on the moon like Scott and Irvin did, and unpack and drive the Lunar Rover.

This App requires a Google Cardboard VR headset, and a modern, powerful smartphone.

Does not require a button.

Best experienced with headphones.

If you notice the application is running slow, select the "half resolution" option in the main menu.

Although this application aims to recreate a realistic impression of the Apollo 15 moon landing, using NASA data and footage, some liberties have been taken to fit the mission into a minutes-long VR demo.

Journey into the Human Brain

From the Google Play store:

InMind 2 is an action/arcade VR game with a bit of decision making strategy and neuroscience of the human brain.

You'll take part in the process of one teenager named John becoming an adult, and help shape John's future self, while experiencing an exciting journey inside the unusual micro world of the carefully recreated human brain. Remember that in this world even one small molecule can change a person's destiny!

The game places emphasis on the chemistry behind human emotion, greatly inspired by the Pixar/Disney movie "Inside Out" and (more scientifically) Lövheim’s theory of emotions. On the gameplay side, we take the best from our experiences developing the games InMind and InCell, to create an innovative and eye-catching VR experience.

It is well known by scientists that emotions are nothing other than hormones affecting the human body -- and especially the brain. You'll take part in the process of one teenager named John becoming an adult, and help shape John's future self, while experiencing an exciting journey inside the human brain. During this crucial time, John will face several key moments, and his reaction to these moments may lead to forming new interests and relations. Help John on his way towards his destiny... His future is in your hands!

Short Solar System Tour

From the Google Play store:

Titans of Space® is a short guided tour of our planets and a few stars in virtual reality. Works with Google Cardboard.

• Compare the sizes of planets and moons - everything is toy-sized, shrunk down to 1 millionth of their actual size. Distances between objects are not to scale to make comparisons easier.

• Feel the dynamic soundtrack, carefully matched to your tour.

• Enjoy full control over the pace and depth of your tour through a multitude of options, though just kicking back with the defaults is fine too!

• No form of input is necessary to experience the full tour, though if your headset has a strap, using a controller is recommended for comfort. The next best thing is to use a phone with NFC support with a Cardboard headset that has a magnetic switch, or a Cardboard 2.0 headset that can tap your phone's screen.

• Catch up on what's new in the Solar System! Your cockpit dashboard will display informational text at most tour stops. There are sometimes additional pages of information with extra detail.

• Translated into multiple languages. Some portions of the experience are still in English, and this is not the fault of the translator(s) as I just didn't have the full text ready for them at the time.
