What concepts will your child explore in Second Grade?
Learners in second grade will represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction with numbers through 1,000, using flexible strategies. They will work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication showing repeated addition related to a visual model of an array. They will understand place value, grouping numbers by hundreds, tens, and ones. They will count forward and backward within 1,000 by ones, tens, and hundreds starting at any number. They will estimate and measure objects using standard units, work with time to the nearest five minutes, and identify all coins and their value. They will recognize shapes and their attributes, as well as explore partitioning shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths.
