week 20

January 20th- January 27th

Hi everyone!

As you probably know, we celebrated Martin Luther King Day on Monday just as we do every year on third Monday in January. Martin Luther King fought to teach resistance through non-violence. He was a pioneer in the Civil Rights Movement and fought racism and the mistreatment of men and women based on the color of their skin. Next month is Black History Month and this week we will begin a journey to celebrate and learn about as many Black musicians and performers as we can. First up! Aretha Franklin. The QUEEN of Soul! Her song "Respect" was an anthem during the Civil Rights Movement. I'd like for you to watch the video all about Aretha and then listen to her song Respect. When you've finished I've shared a video with a rhythm stick activity. You could use anything in your house that seems like it would work in place of rhythm or drumsticks if you don't have them available to you ( check with your grown-ups to make sure it's ok!) If you can't find anything then just use your hands. Once you've finished fill out the Google Form below. There will be an option for you to share a video of yourself doing the rhythm stick video but this is optional and only if you choose to share with me! Have fun!

week 19

January 19th- January 22nd

Hi everyone!

We are back with another song maker remix! Click on the link below. Listen to the song I've created. Do you recognize it? Once you've figured it out I want you to create a "remix" of your own by editing the song/template that I shared. A remix is when a song has been altered from its original state by adding beats, other notes or other creative ideas. It should still be recognizable but with your own creative touch. Once you've finished fill out the google form below. Have fun!
