Practicum Information
You will have a 4 week practicum as part of your TER course. This page contains the practicum guidelines that will be sent to your associate and the associate report that should be completed by your associate in consultation with you.
Please refer to the guidelines in the first instance if you have any questions. If your question is not addressed in the guidelines please contact Kohia Centre Manager - Jillian Shearer-Rowe j.shearer-rowe@auckland.ac.nz for administrative queries and your facilitators for assignment queries or facilitator visits.
Practicum Visits
Your visiting facilitator will be in touch by the end of the second week to arrange and confirm your practicum visit - the earlier you are in touch the more likely you are to get the observation time that best suits you.
To ensure visits can be catered for during the two weeks full control, Primary observations need to be either first thing in the morning or after lunch.
If you are currently employed in a full time or part time position an observation can be completed at a time suitable for you and the visiting facilitator outside the practicum time.
You need to allow for approximately 45 minutes following your lesson observation to meet with your facilitator. Your Associate Teacher may be part of this if they wish.
Once the day and time of your visit has been confirmed please ensure the school office knows when to expect your facilitator and that arrangements have been made to guide them to your classroom.
You should have a printed lesson plan available for your facilitator on arrival.
It is good practice to introduce us to your students - our name and that we are there to observe the teaching and learning occurring in the classroom and that we would like to ask some of them questions about their learning.
