Our Jazz Cats is a jazz band designed to be a regularly performing ensemble that plays public events around the area. We feature 25 songs in our book, and our goal is to learn enough of them to play over an hour's worth of music. This year we have already performed at Auburn HS's Scholar Awards Night, Auburn Riverside's High School Jazz Festival, before the championship game at the Martin Luther King basketball tournament at the Showare Center; at Auburn High School's Winter Jazz Night.
Jazz Educators that have positively influenced The Jazz Cats this year are
Jason Garcia, Lead Trumpet Player
Colton DeCarteret, Rhythm Section Expert, Olympic MS Alumni, and Washington Middle School band teacher
Kate Olsen, PLU professor "You guys don't sound like a middle school jazz band!"
Megan Vinther, Composer, HS and College Band leader
Tony Paustian, AHS band teacher and rhythm section guru
Meghan Wagner, ARHS band teacher, festival organzier, WMEA curriculum officer, and under represented composers advocate - "You guys are AWESOME!"

Pacific Lutheran University Jazz Festival Details:
This is our 3rd and BIGGEST jazz festival of the year, and we are the only middle school that is included in this event, which is really amazing for you guys. We will have jazz band the morning we leave at our normal time of 6:30am. Then we will get on a bus at 8am and leave for PLU. You can see that our warmup time is at 10:50am. We perform at 11am, and we have a clinic from 11:20-11:50. After us, at 12pm, Professional Saxophonist Eric Marienthal and PLU jazz band are putting on a mini concert for us! It will be really amazing. The plan is to then have a picnic somewhere on the PLU campus before heading home.
We are playing Good News, How the Mind Wanders, and Tu Valor.
If you have a parent that wants to chaperone, they need to fill out the volunteer application process, and email me. We will have extra room on the bus, so interested parents are welcome!
