School Improvement is the single most important business of our schools. It is the process schools use to ensure that each student is achieving at high levels of learning. The school improvement planning process is a continual process used to coordinate and prioritize all work of the school in the context of student achievement. Annually, our school improvement teams participate in a need assessment review conducted with the department of student learning. During the need assessment review, current state and district student assessment data and school perceptual surveys are reviewed and interpreted by the teams. The school improvement plan is then revised to address the new information and identified needs. All individual school improvement plans align to the district strategic plan and nine characteristics of high performing schools.
School improvement is a three year cycle. In year one, 1/3 of our schools are fully revising their plans; in year two, 1/3 present their school improvement progress to the student learning department; and in year three, 1/3 formally present their school improvement results, findings, and student achievement data to the school board during a regularly scheduled school board meeting.
