CSIP programs begun as an extra curricular activity that invites students to join outreach activities outside the vicinity of the campus. Over the years, it became a co-curricular that developed into a program that offers a variety of learning experiences that promotes social involvement, social responsibility and servant leadership. After the pandemic, it has now a framework that includes classroom sessions for all programs that provides venue to talk about different modules, conducts orientation and planning sessions for off-campus activities and Katipunan Fund Drive (KFD), and a space to deepen students perspectives and understandings about relevant social issues through different assessments and processing sessions.
Dungaw is the program designed for Grade 7 students. It focuses on awareness of social issues and what it means to be an Atenean, a Filipino, and a Christian in the face of these challenges. From the word dungaw, which means “to take a look”, the program invites the students to look outside the windows of their classrooms or outside of their comfort zones and open all their senses to make themselves aware of the realities in our society.
Danas is the program designed for Grade 8 students. It focuses on the beauty of God’s creation and the current ecological crises we face globally. From the word danas, which means “to experience,” the program encourages the students to concretely experience their role as stewards of God’s creation and to promote sustainable development by enkindling their interest in sustainable development.
Dama is the program designed for Grade 9 students. It focuses on channeling God’s love into meaningful service. From the word dama, which means “to feel,” the program invites the students to feel the joy of serving others through teaching. By journeying with their fellow students, it is hoped that they get to know themselves better and discover theirs’ and others’ skills and talents that they can share.
Damay is the culmination of all the social involvement programs in the Junior High School. It focuses on cultivating relationships within family and extending it towards society. The word damay means “to sympathize” or “to be involved.” The program aims to nurture the students’ compassion and empathy toward others. The students are given the opportunity to experience a life of simplicity and live in solidarity with their foster family through the activities in the program. Through this experience, it is hoped that they gain wider and deeper insights on the lives of their fellow Filipinos and on Philippine society.
