Students approved for Phase 1 and 2 in Biology and Computational Life Sciences can choose to do their +1/MS year through ASU Online. Students can strictly only go from an in-person, on-campus undergrad program to an online graduate program; not from ASU Online to in-person. There are no additional eligibility requirements for requesting to switch modality.
Important points:
The option is only open for Biology and Computational Life Sciences Programs
Campus students can select to do the MS completely with ASU Online; online students cannot select to do the MS in-person.
A student must decide their program at Phase 1 and their campus at Phase 2. See considerations below.
Doing the MS as an ASU Online student is different than completing iCourses -- please review your resources and reach out with questions.
For students interested in doing a cross-modality accelerated program, your two MS options are Biology and Computational Life Sciences. We recommend identifying what MS you are interested in during the Phase 1 application to better plan shared courses. Students will select their accelerated pathway and modalities at Phase 1 and will confirm their desired MS modality at Phase 2. See considerations below.
As an undergraduate, you continue to take on-campus and iCourse classes. You will follow the same instructions listed here for planning and taking coursework once you're approved for Phase 1.
Shared credits remain the same. Whether a class has an oCourse version or not, you can share any class approved for the immersion MS (aka it's on the course offering sheet). In your final semester of undergrad, please wait until you are approved for Phase 2 before enrolling in classes. Read more about Phase 2 here. Once you are approved and admitted to the online MS program, you can enroll in the appropriate classes.
Not unlike iCourses, classes for the MS through ASU Online are virtual and asynchronous. In these "oCourses," you do not need to be available at a specific time for lectures, quizzes, or tests. Review the syllabus for a course for the deadlines.
Online coursework differs from on-campus and may be more limited. You can view the course offering sheets on our online version of the success site.
Cost for tuition and fees vary by modality. Use the tuition estimator tool to calculate the difference, or reach out to ASU Financial Aid and Student Accounts department.
