CPT APPLICATION GUIDELINES AND PROCESSES
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a type of work authorization that allows F-1 international students to engage in paid and unpaid employment during their degree program. CPT is academic in nature and must be related to specific courses and the knowledge and skills gained in those courses.

Take a few minutes to watch this UPDATED video, which provides an overview of the CPT application process.
(Please pay attention, as it highlights critical information that will minimize future delays in processing your application.)
STEPS FOR CPT APPLICATION PROCESS
Please Follow The Step By Step Process
Click on each step and read the instructions carefully.
Must read Renege Policy.
Please review the DEADLINES first and plan accordingly.
Students may only work within the designated CPT start & end dates (no exceptions). CPT work dates are determined by the ASU Academic Calendar semester dates. If the internship falls outside of these dates, the CPT application will be denied.
Applications that are submitted incorrectly or missing any documents or information will be denied and the process will restart, including the processing time.
Do not send follow-up emails inquiring about how long it will take to process your application. Processing times are posted above. If you did not allow enough time for processing, you will be asked to adjust your start date.
Make sure you are logged into your ASU Google account or incognito in Chrome
Do not proceed to step 5 until you receive the email with the Completed and approved SCAI Graduate Internship application (from Step 3 - CPT APPLICATION) that has been signed by all parties.
You may register for these courses at will, but you should only do so if you are certain you will be doing an internship.
Approval to pursue an internship in a specific semester is granted via the Adobe Sign Internship Request process. Requests to add or drop CEN/CSE/DSE/IEE/SER 584 after the posted add/drop or tuition refund deadlines will NOT be approved.
Once you receive the email with the completed SCAI CPT Application you can initiate the ISSC CPT I-20 e-Form.
Until you have final approval from ISSC, you cannot start working or assume that your authorization for CPT has been granted.
All students are required to submit a report at the conclusion of their internship.
